"WINDS OF FREEDOM--THE STORY OF THE NAVAJO CODE TALKERS OF WORLD WAR II" is a very detailed look at a little-known mission performed by Navajo Indians serving with the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. On the Pacific front, strange messages were picked up by American and Japanese forces. The messages were totally unintelligible. Only a special group of American troops understood the messages--the Navajo code talkers who communicated in a code based on the Navajo language. It proved to be unbreakable. No one but a Navajo member of the U.S. Marine Corps could send or receive these messages much of which was based on tone and inflection.
