Description
This is a very rare WWII 154th Weather Reconnaissance Squadron unit history book entitled "The Story of a Squadron: An Illustrated Overseas War Diary-Album" by Frederick W. Gillies. It is a first edition, published in 1946. This book contains over 130 pages full of text and pictures, including just about daily accounts of the squadron's activities and several pictures of squadron members (with names listed) and aircraft. The book chronicles the experiences of the squadron from 1942-1945 and contains a squadron overseas roster, KIA list, personnel awards list, and unit commendations. The 154th Weather Reconnaissance Squadron flew P-38 aircraft, was attached to the 15th Air Force, and saw extensive action in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations during World War II. The missions of the squadron typically involved flying ahead of the heavy bombers to relay information about the weather conditions. Overall, this book is in good, used condition for its age, with some signs of wear. Please see pictures to judge the condition of this book. This very rare book is an excellent reference and would make a great addition to any military library. Please contact me with any questions. Thanks for looking.
