    Description

    WW2 1940 Practical Air Navigation Manual Owned By A MIA Pilot
    This auction also includes a letter from the war department to the family of the
    of this man stating that he is still MIA. The letter is addressed to his father.
    This manual comes from a
    Second Lieutenant whos group was the
    39th Bomber Group, Very Heavy, 60th Bomber Squadron.
    He was awarded 8 medals of honor including a purple heart
    He was the pilot of the B-29 #44-69867 "Mary Fortune" during missions over Japan.
    Things went fairly normal until their 6th mission from Guam to Yokohama. Flak was
    intense and a large hole was blown open just ahead of the tail position causing them to lose
    control and fall out of their formation.
    They were forced to abandon 50 miles off the Japanese coast. Eight men parachuted from the plane.
    Three of them were later rescued by a submarine.
    These items do show age.There is writing inside the manual.

    explaining on how you can prepare yourself for Cadet training
