MacArthur was a denizen of the Algonquin Round Table, probably best known for his collaborations with Ben Hecht, including the stage hits *The Front Page*, *Twentieth Century*, and *Ladies and Gentlemen*. MacArthur was married to Helen Hayes, and in the 1930s was also a successful screenwriter and director.
