".  This book is a stunning
collection of official WWII U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard photographs compiled by CAPTAIN EDWARD STEICHEN, U.S.N.R.
The book is a first edition and was published in 1945 by U. S. Camera, New York.  The book contains over 100 gripping
black-and-white photos of United States Navy sailors and Marines during World War II taken by
famed photographer Captain Edward Steichen.  The photos present an amazing pictorial record of American soldiers, ships and airplanes during WWII.  The photographs include scenes taken during actual combat.  The images are reproduced full-page size, the reproduction is excellent, and includes descriptive narratives for each photograph.
The book measures approximately 11-3/8" tall, 11.0" wide and 5/16" thick.  The book's soft covers remain securely attached but do show areas of honest wear and edge damage from aging.  The front cover has some paper loss along the right middle edge along with areas of chipping and minor losses along the top and bottom edges of the cover.  Please refer to the description photos to confirm the condition and for more details about what I have described.
The back cover remains securely attached but does have two approximate 1.25" long tears located near the cover's top right edge corner and the middle of the cover's left edge.  There are also areas of chipping and paper losses along both the top and bottom edges of the back cover.

The internal pages all remain securely attached within the cover's stapled binding.  Some pages may have a dogged-eared (folded) corner and occasional chipping along the outer edges but all the photographs are clean and have no damage or condition issues.
The book is in very good condition considering it is 76 years old.
This is a great book for the WWII historian that will most assuredly captivate the reader's attention as they look through the vivid and graphic war time images.
