When you place a real Swarovski Crystal AB bead and fake versions side by side, You will be stunned. The fake ones are faded looking, the highlight coat is all scratched and rubbing off - they in fact look so awful I don't dare use them in jewelry. The non-AB "crystals" look ok unless you examine them under a magnifying glass, but on close inspection there may be air bubbles inside them, and they don't stand out by shine at all if put side by side as the genuine ones always do.
A jewelry crafter will risk his or her reputation if selling jewelry made with cheaper material. Beware of Swarovski priced extremely low and/or from China. Search the Ebay forums to learn more.
