The readoption by the Army of a Personnel System similar to that in use from 1926 to 1933, thus freeing the company commander and first sergeant from responsibility for practically all individual personnel records, and concentrating these personnel records in the unit personnel section, has made advisable a considerable rearrangement of the matter in the text for the convenience of all concerned

“
This manual is in three parts – part one, company administration; part two, regimental administration; and part three, special component – Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC).
** © nasa21 – do not copy **
While the procedures and suggestions described in this manual pertain to an infantry rifle company and an infantry regiment, they are, with only minor variations, applicable to similar organizations throughout the Army. A typical soldier … has been selected to show the administration procedures which are required in inducting (or enlisting) an enlisted man and administering his affairs during his military career. How this soldier (who does not actually exist) was inducted, where he was sent, and what happened to him until he was honorably discharged, is indicated by the records described
[and illustrated]
in this chapter.
[this section is 48 pages long and describes the induction process (complete with DSS form numbers and examples, illustrated FBI Military Fingerprint Card, etc.), his active service, and his discharge, with illustrations of the appropriate forms and records]

This manual is in
GOOD
condition

There are light stains or discoloration on the upper portion of the front cover and on the spine, or it may be that the covers have faded.
The front cover is torn at the spine for about 1 inch at the bottom and the rear cover is likewise torn the same amount at the top – neither of these affects the integrity of the covers. The corners are “bumped” and there is wear from use apparent on the edges of the spine. Notwithstanding these defects, the manual is completely intact and readable, with no torn pages.
Appearing on the front cover, upper left, is the following:
Lt. Florence Crane

manual, “
Company Administration

and The Personnel Office
(Including Career Guidance, Personnel Management, Personnel Records, and Pay)
” , by Lt. Col. C. M. Virtue, Adjutant General’s Department, U.S. Army; The Military Service Publishing Company, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; ©1950, Eighteenth Edition, May 1950
Purpose
“
The purpose of the author in presenting this book is to provide in one volume a comprehensive guide covering all of the various Army Regulations,
** © nasa21 – do not copy **
Special Regulations, Technical manuals, and other official instructions which have to do with the administration of a company or similar unit and with the operation of a unit personnel office; to explain and demonstrate the preparation of the various reports required to be submitted and records required to be maintained – in short, to provide a handy reference work for the administrative personnel of the company and for those in the unit whose duties include personnel management and the maintenance of personnel records
.”
Arrangement
“
The present Army personnel system has been adopted with a view to freeing the company commander and first sergeant from responsibility for practically all individual personnel records, and concentrating of such records in the unit personnel section. The company commander, however, is still charged with responsibility for many and varied records and administrative papers. In addition, it is desirable that the company commander and first sergeant have more than a mere acquaintance with the individual records of the enlisted men of their organization, particularly since it is to the company commander and first sergeant that the enlisted men of a company must look for advice and assistance. The arrangement of the text has been adapted accordingly
.”
This is the revised and updated edition of the 1942 publication. “Radar” O’Reilly of MASH 4077

The front cover and first 2 pages are “loose” but not detached at the spine.

Otherwise, the manual is completely intact and readable, with no torn pages.
A master sergeant’s name and service number are written in ink on the first page.
A small receipt from “Camp Stoneman Exchange” was found in the book and will be included. Camp Stoneman was a WWII and Korean War staging base in California.

NOTE
about shipping time –
I strive to ship your purchase as soon as possible, usually in one business day (not counting weekends/US holidays).
Shipping times have increased recently, in some cases
dramatically
.
Perhaps this is due to the world-wide effects of the current global medical pandemic.
USPS Priority Mail packages I have sent to U.S. destinations have taken seven (7) or more days to arrive instead of the two (2) days promised by USPS.
Packages sent via other USPS services (First Class, Media Mail, etc.) may also take even longer to arrive at your door than one would expect in normal times.
International shipments may also be impacted by delays.
Please be patient.
Also, updates to the eBay package tracking service may lag far behind actual data.
On at least two occasions eBay tracking showed no data on the package until the day it was delivered.
This is very frustrating for both buyer and seller.
Feel free to contact me with your concerns should this occur.

NOTE
to buyers regarding
sales tax
–
In 2019 eBay (
NOT
this seller
) began charging sales tax on purchases made by buyers in many U.S. states. The following is copied directly from eBay’s Help page, “Paying tax on eBay purchases”:
** © nasa21 – do not copy **
“eBay's sales tax collection for US states
Based on applicable tax laws, eBay will calculate, collect, and remit sales tax on behalf of sellers for items shipped to customers in the following states.
Please check this page regularly as we are continuously updating the following table as states adopt new laws and regulations regarding sales tax collection.” [
see eBay website for table with list of states
]
This sales tax collection policy is part of eBay’s “Marketplace responsibility” plan.
Seller has no control over any aspect of this policy and cannot change, reverse, or credit any sales tax charged by eBay.
--------------------- // --------------------------
UPDATE
- effective 1 January 2021 eBay began collecting 20%
VAT
on purchases made by buyers in the UK.
Other countries may also be affected.
