    Description

The Long Trail: 341st Engineers on the Alaska Military Highway, 1942–1943.
Charlotte, North Carolina: The Herald Press, n.d. [1943]. Pictorial green cloth, 12-1/4" x 9", unpaginated (100+ pages), illustrated in black and white and color. Light soiling and rubbing to covers with some wear to extremities; faint spotting to front and rear blanks (main portion of text block unaffected); original owner's ink name (see below); otherwise very good to near fine overall. A sound copy of this seldom-seen World War II regimental history.
From the foreword: "The 341st Engineer Regiment (GS) moved into Canada in April 1942 to begin construction on its designated portion of the 'dream-road,' the Alaska Military Highway. Fifteen months later, the end of July 1943, the Regiment returned to the United States, its first mission of World War II successfully completed.
"To give a pictorial account of the work accomplished and to keep alive the memories of that country, this book has been compiled for all members who shared in the trials and tribulations—yes, and fun, too—of the building of 'The Road,' now called one of the great engineering miracles of the age. It is being distributed free to every man who was in the north country with the Regiment. All costs are paid from the profits made in the operation of the Regimental PX in Canada. And so, in a way, it is just a return to the men of the own money, in another form. . . ."
The book includes hundreds of photos of personnel, work on the highway, camp life and activities, and more. The signature noted above is that of Martin McCormack of West Rutland, Vermont, who is listed as a Technician, Fifth Grade in Company C.
    Uncommon.

IMPORTANT NEW NOTE ON SHIPPING--PLEASE READ.
I'm not a fan of fine print and disclaimers, but a number recent developments have contributed to likely delays in shipping:
    1) Recent changes at the USPS have resulted in longer shipping times, particularly to more distant destinations (i.e., the south, midwest, and west). Please take this into account. I generally ship using the least expensive class that's appropriate, but I will gladly make arrangements for expedited shipping upon request. If there are any issues with delays/tracking, please contact me immediately—I am happy to assist.
    2) Most sellers are now required to enroll in eBay's Managed Payments program. As part of this program,
eBay holds every buyer's payment for two business days before releasing it to the seller.
This means that if you pay late on a Thursday night, your payment will not clear until at least Tuesday. If you pay on a Monday morning, your payment will not clear until at least Wednesday. Again, please take this into account.
In case of any issues or problems, please contact me before opening a request or dispute.
As my long feedback record makes clear, I strive to provide accuracy in descriptions, great care in packaging and shipping, and excellent customer service.
Contacting me directly first to resolve questions or issues greatly speeds up the process and ensures greatest satisfaction.
